Doddy Haus: A Moody Transformation with Timeless Character
There’s something special about a house that carries a family story in its name. “Doddy” is the Pennsylvania Dutch term for grandpa, while “Haus” means house—making Doddy Haus, quite simply, Grandpa’s House. The name felt fitting for a home rooted in family, character, and the memories made within its walls. For this project, we wanted the design to honor that sense of history while giving the home a fresh, moody personality all its own.
Some homes have good bones—you just need to give them the opportunity to shine. For #DoddyHaus, our goal was to transform the home with thoughtful updates that added character, functionality, and a little more personality, while still making the finished spaces feel like they belonged to the original home.
This project brought together an exterior remodel, a new addition, and a kitchen transformation, creating a home that feels both elevated and inviting.
A Moody Exterior with Plenty of Character

From the outside, #DoddyHaus now has a stronger sense of presence. The exterior updates were designed to give the home a more intentional look, bringing together materials, colors, and architectural details that complement one another.
Rather than making the home feel completely new, we wanted the updates to feel natural to the existing structure. The result is an exterior with a darker, moodier aesthetic that gives the home plenty of personality without feeling trendy.
Making Room for More

The addition was an important part of the transformation, giving the homeowners additional space while creating a more cohesive connection between the existing home and the new construction.
When designing an addition, we always want it to feel like it was meant to be there from the beginning. That meant paying close attention to scale, materials, windows, and architectural details so the new space complemented what was already there.
The finished addition adds a three-car garage the homeowner needed while maintaining the character that made the home special in the first place.
A Kitchen with a Moody Feel

Inside, the kitchen carries the same intentional, moody direction as the exterior. The design balances darker elements with natural textures and warm details, creating a space that feels dramatic without sacrificing comfort.
The kitchen was designed to be more than a beautiful space. It needed to function well for everyday life while also feeling connected to the rest of the home. Thoughtful selections throughout the space help create a balance between visual impact and practicality.
Thoughtful Updates, One Cohesive Home

What makes #DoddyHaus special isn't any one element of the project. It's the way all of the pieces work together.
The exterior remodel, addition, and kitchen renovation each brought something different to the home, but they were designed with the same overall vision in mind. By carrying similar tones, materials, and architectural details throughout, the spaces feel connected rather than simply updated individually.
For us, that's always the goal: creating a home that feels intentional from the outside in and, most importantly, feels like it belongs to the people who live there.
#DoddyHaus is a reminder that a home doesn't always need to be completely reimagined to feel completely different. Sometimes, the right combination of thoughtful design, intentional materials, and a little bit of boldness is all it takes.
